After a string of six wins, Martins Ferry's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monroe Central Seminoles. The Purple Riders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Seminoles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

The 3-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Martins Ferry lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Giana Chirpas paced Martins Ferry's offense, picking up 20 kills. Chirpas got some help from Olivia Harkness and her 40 assists. Finally, Chirpas was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high seven blocks.

Monroe Central found their leader in sophomore Allie McFrederick, who had 12 assists and seven digs.

Martins Ferry's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-5. As for Monroe Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Martins Ferry has already played their next match (against Harrison Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Monroe Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Cameron on the 2nd.
