Baseball Recap: Jerome Tigers vs. South Fremont Cougars
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canyon Ridge, Jerome was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the South Fremont Cougars as the Jerome Tigers made off with a 13-2 victory. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 9-0 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2021.
Mason Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Garcia was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Julian Orozco was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Lane Arellano also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Jerome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Fremont only posted an OBP of .250.
The victory got Jerome back to even at 2-2. As for South Fremont, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Jerome didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-3 win against Skyview on the 20th. As for South Fremont, they will take on Nampa in a tournament on Friday. South Fremont has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
