Baseball Recap: Otay Ranch Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Otay Ranch, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against the Olympian Eagles on Monday as they made off with a 9-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-3 last Monday.

Otay Ranch got a great performance from Fernando Tovalin as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Tovalin also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Mustangs are undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Jake Medina and Carlos Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Medina scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Martinez scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aidan Galicia, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Otay Ranch's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Olympian, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Otay Ranch is set to square off against their familiar foe Sweetwater at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Olympian will take on rival Hilltop at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 4, the Lancers 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
