Preview: Hoehne Farmers vs. La Veta Redhawks
After five games on the road, Hoehne is heading back home. They will take on the La Veta Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Hoehne, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 51-36 loss to Pagosa Springs.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Janae Ramos, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds. Alessa Cantoria was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 4 steals.
Even though they lost, Hoehne were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pagosa Springs only pulled down three.
Meanwhile, La Veta was beaten by Las Animas 60-17 on Friday. La Veta has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Aspen Autry was La Veta's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Jayden Baudino held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds. Baudino took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Hoehne's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2, while Pagosa Springs' bumped their own down to the opposite: 2-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hoehne have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like La Veta struggles in that department as they've been even better at 32.7 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Everything came up roses for Hoehne against La Veta in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 61-24 victory. Does Hoehne have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Veta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
