The Roxana Shells will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans at 2:00 p.m. Roxana will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Roxana is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They breezed past Frankfort to the tune of 55-26. Considering the Shells have won six matchups by more than 26 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Roxana found their leader in sophomore Mekhi Shorter, who rushed for 102 yards and one score on only ten carries.
Roxana was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 231 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Roxana, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brandon Green, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph-Ogden posted their closest victory since September 6, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Benton, sneaking past 17-14.
Roxana better keep an eye on Kaden Wedig. He was instrumental in St. Joseph-Ogden's win, picking up 169 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Roxana's record now sits at 7-3. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, their record is now 6-4.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Roxana has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 314.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph-Ogden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Roxana won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, slipping by St. Joseph-Ogden 48-47. Will the Shells repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
