Preview: Lee Christian Falcons vs. North Hills Christian Eagles
The Lee Christian Falcons will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the North Hills Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Lee Christian suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 86-64 defeat at the hands of Crossroads Christian. While losing is never fun, Lee Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Crossroads Christian is ranked 181st).
Despite the defeat, Lee Christian got a solid performance out of Daniel Rumbold, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 3 assists. Rumbold is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 12 games he's played. Cayce Schoolcraft was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Hills Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 77-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Norman Christian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Thursday (59), North Hills Christian still had to take the loss.
The losing side was boosted by Champion Hayden, who dropped a double-double on 39 points and 18 rebounds. That was a full 55.7% of North Hills Christian's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Malachi Strong, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Lee Christian dropped their record down to 8-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for North Hills Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Lee Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 65.2 points per game. However, it's not like North Hills Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 71.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Lee Christian lost to North Hills Christian on the road by a decisive 79-60 margin in their previous meeting on January 4th. Can Lee Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
