Football Recap: Wyatt Straight Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Northview

Baker is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Northview on Friday, but Northview came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Gators came out on top in a nail-biter against the Chiefs, sneaking past 22-19. Those 22 points were actually the fewest the Gators have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Baker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wyatt Straight, who rushed for 132 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Straight also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble, making nine total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending one pass. Another player making a difference was Justice Baldwin, who rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Baker was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Another reason for the win was Baker's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece.

Although Northview took the loss, they still got scores from Tyson Phifer, Easten Odom, and Nate Duffy.

Baker's record now sits at 7-0. As for Northview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Baker will challenge Zion Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northview, they will take on Jay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
