Soccer Recap: Laney's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Thursday

Laney had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wakefield Wolverines a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Wakefield are ranked 115th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alvaro Hernandez Rodriguez and Cooper Raney scored both of Laney's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

The victory made it two in a row for Laney and bumps their season record up to 18-4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two matches. As for Wakefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10-3.

Laney didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-2 victory against Broughton on the 10th. Wakefield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
