Basketball Recap: Andrew Jackson Piles Up the Points Against Lakewood

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against First Baptist School, Andrew Jackson was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They really took it to the Lakewood Gators for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-44 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Volunteers had established a 22-point advantage.

Leading Andrew Jackson to victory were Trinity Delly and Ni'Yonna Asbelle. Delly shot 60% from the field en route to 21 points in addition to six assists and five steals, while Asbelle went 9-for-20 on her way to 23 points along with six steals and five assists. Asbelle's big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Alexa Fair was another key player, going 6-for-14 to rack up 14 points along with six assists and six steals.

Andrew Jackson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 33 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Andrew Jackson's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Lakewood, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.
