Baseball Game Preview: Leon Lions vs. Godby Cougars

Leon has gone a perfect 10-0 against Godby recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Leon Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Godby Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Godby took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Leon, who comes in off a win.

Last Wednesday, Leon got the win against Franklin County by a conclusive 14-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Connor Borges made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, Leon let Caleb Horne and Evans Franco loose on the outfield. Horne scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Franco scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Horne a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Hayden McNeill, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Leon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin County only posted an OBP of .393.

Meanwhile, Godby had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against Wakulla on Tuesday, falling 14-3. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Martin Crawford and Israel Williams stepped up to the plate in a big way. Crawford went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Williams scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Leon took their win against Godby when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1. Does Leon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Godby turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
