Basketball Recap: Stanwood Takes a Loss

Stanwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Mater Dei Monarchs, falling 85-43. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 294th in Washington, while the Monarchs are ranked 47th in California).

When it comes to explaining why Stanwood lost, don't look at Cole Thorson. Despite the final result, he posted eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Stanwood was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Mater Dei got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Demarcus Henry out in front who put up 14 points. Luke Barnett was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Stanwood's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mater Dei, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Stanwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-52 loss against Hoover on the 27th. As for Mater Dei, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-26 win against Highland on the 27th.
