Basketball Recap: Eva Birkeland's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Morgan over Grantsville

If Morgan was riding high fresh off their 80-48 takedown of Ogden last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Morgan Trojans lost to the Grantsville Cowboys on the road by a 72-58 margin on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Cowboys recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Morgan's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eva Birkeland, who went 5 of 11 en route to 19 points. The matchup was Birkeland's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Rockenfield, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Baylee Lowder was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 boards for Grantsville. Lowder has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 32 times she's played. Avery Allred was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.

Morgan now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Grantsville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.

Morgan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-32 victory against Union on the 14th. As for Grantsville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-38 win against South Summit on the 14th.
