Basketball Recap: Shamrock Takes a Loss

Shamrock extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-3. The contest between the Irish and the Sunray Bobcats didn't end well, with the Irish falling 48-33. The Irish were not able to make up for their loss to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in December of 2019.

As for Sunray, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points on average over those games.

Sunray found their leader in sophomore Lexi Gomez, who posted 16 points along with eight steals and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for Gomez. The team also got some help courtesy of Yusuri Rivero, who scored ten points.

Looking ahead, Shamrock will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lefors at 6:00 p.m. The Irish will be up against the Pirates' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sunray, they and Miami will face off at 3:50 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 26 points per game this season, so the Bobcats' offense will have their work cut out for them.
