Preview: Picayune vs. Hattiesburg

Picayune (7-1) may have come out ahead in its last game, but it shouldn't get too cocky given who is up next. It squares off against Hattiesburg (8-0) this Friday at 7:00 PM. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.

Picayune can now show off five landslide victories after its game last week. It took its game last week with a confident 47 - 26 score. One major factor in the win was the play of senior true, who ran for 292 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. This sound performance was nothing new for Anderson, who has been a rock for Picayune in the past eight games. Senior David Baker was in the mix too, providing Picayune with two touchdowns.

As for Hattiesburg, the state rankings suggested a blowout in its previous game, and that is exactly what happened. The final score between it and Wayne County last week was a 60 - 18 blowout in Hattiesburg's favor. With four TDs, junior Jarod Conner was a significant factor in the success. Conner went long for a 65-yard TD catch in the third quarter, one of the game's most exciting plays.

The last time they met, the final might easily have been mistaken for a basketball score. Picayune walked away with a 56 - 48 win. It had a lot of yards that game (532) and will likely be setting its aim high again. Can it repeat its success? We'll find out this Friday.
