Baseball Recap: Amery Comes Up Short

Amery fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Elk Mound on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mounders by a score of 10-9. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Grady Potter put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Potter was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Gavin Humpal made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Amery's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Levi Thayer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Amery now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Elk Mound, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Amery didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-4 victory against Clear Lake on the 2nd. As for Elk Mound, they will challenge Bloomer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
