Baseball Game Preview: Mishawaka Cavemen vs. Fairfield Falcons

The Mishawaka Cavemen will venture away from home to face off against the Fairfield Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mishawaka is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Mishawaka nor Goshen made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Cavemen fell 3-0 to the RedHawks. Cavemen fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the RedHawks since on Monday.

Colton Handley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Mishawaka saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Nowacki, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Fairfield came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Jimmies.

Logan Miller looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Eli Miller was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Fairfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jimtown struck out seven times.

Mishawaka's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6. As for Fairfield, their record now sits at 12-6.

Mishawaka took their victory against Fairfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 19-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavemen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
