Preview: Chapin Huskies vs. Canutillo Eagles

The Chapin Huskies will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Canutillo Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Chapin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past Burges 42-7 on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Chapin had established a 22 point advantage.

Chapin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daveon Singleton, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 72 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Carey Wade, who rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.1 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Canutillo took their match at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 58-7 win over Andress. With Canutillo ahead 38-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Canutillo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeremiah Knox, who threw for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only seven passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mathew Gasca was another key contributor, rushing for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.

Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-2.

Chapin suffered a grim 26-0 defeat to Canutillo in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Chapin have more luck at home instead of on the road?
