Baseball Game Preview: Munford Cougars vs. Melrose Golden Wildcats

The Munford Cougars will square off against the Melrose Golden Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Munford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Munford turned things around against Millington Central on Saturday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Drew McCann looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Munford got a massive performance out of Curly Lowry, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Lowry has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 11-14 otherwise. Jaxzen Scheidt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Munford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Melrose suffered their biggest loss since March 27th on Tuesday. They lost 13-5 to Kirby. The Golden Wildcats have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Melrose's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Munford, their win bumped their record up to 16-14.
