Softball Game Preview: Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils vs. Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans

Santa Cruz Valley has gone 7-1 against Gilbert Classical Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Dust Devils will welcome the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Santa Cruz Valley barely beat Benson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dust Devils were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Bobcats on Thursday. The Dust Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.

Alyssa Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Audrina Reyes was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Ibarra, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Classical Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Highland Prep West.

Santa Cruz Valley pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything went Santa Cruz Valley's way against Gilbert Classical Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Santa Cruz Valley made off with a 19-0 victory.
