Hico had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Meridian Yellowjackets by a score of 46-39 on Friday. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 38-25 win the Yellowjackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Meridian had strong showings from Guillermo Ortiz, who posted 23 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, and Cameron Scott, who earned 13 points along with five boards and four steals. Ortiz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 15 games he's played dating back to last season.

Meridian is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Hico has already played their next matchup (against Valley Mills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Meridian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-38 victory against Bell County Homeschool Association on the 24th.
