Baseball Recap: Sierra Vista Gets the Win

Sierra Vista won the last time they faced Garey and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Dons walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Vikings. That's two games straight that the Dons have won by exactly four runs.

Raul Zelaya spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cesar Leon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Sierra Vista's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ethan Zepeda, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Sierra Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.

The win made it two in a row for Sierra Vista and bumps their season record up to 7-13. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Garey, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Sierra Vista will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
