Basketball Game Preview: Brighton Bengals vs. Word of God Academy Force

The Brighton Bengals will head out to square off against the Word of God Academy Force at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Brighton is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Christian Academy of Louisiana: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bengals blew the Crusaders out of the water with a 67-35 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Bengals had established a 27-point advantage.

Brody Giles and Davis Wolfe were among the main playmakers for Brighton as the former went 7-for-12 to rack up 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals and the latter posted 15 points along with five boards and four steals. The matchup was Wolfe's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Williams, who earned eight points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Word of God Academy strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They strolled past Prairie View Academy with points to spare, taking the game 61-46.

Word of God Academy's win came from a few key players Brighton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zyere Cartwright, who shot 58% from the field on his way to 25 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more points the last four times he's played. Taj Bell was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Brighton now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Word of God Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Brighton was taken down by Word of God Academy 77-15 in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Thankfully for the Bengals, Bryce Euler (who put up 13 points and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
