Basketball Game Preview: Resurrection Christian Cougars vs. Steamboat Springs Sailors

Two dominant guards in Ty Yoder and Jeffrey Sturges are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Resurrection Christian Cougars will head out to face off against the Steamboat Springs Sailors at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Resurrection Christian has 20 straight wins, Steamboat Springs has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Resurrection Christian is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Berthoud: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Resurrection Christian's way against Berthoud on Wednesday as Resurrection Christian made off with a 60-36 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 23 points or more this season.

Resurrection Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yoder, who posted 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Egan Koenig was another key player, going 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points.

Meanwhile, Steamboat Springs lost a heartbreaker to Coal Ridge when they met back in January of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. Steamboat Springs fell just short of Coal Ridge by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, the Sailors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Titans are ranked 91st).

Resurrection Christian's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.1 points. As for Steamboat Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Resurrection Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Steamboat Springs in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 46-35. Will Resurrection Christian repeat their success, or does Steamboat Springs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
