Baseball Game Preview: Everett Seagulls vs. Mount Vernon Bulldogs

The Everett Seagulls will face off against the Mount Vernon Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Everett barely beat Cascade the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Seagulls put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 13-1 victory on Monday. The Seagulls have beaten the Bruins the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bruins has come to flipping the script.

Owen Brunni was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. Everett is 2-1 when Brunni posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Everett got a massive performance out of Conor Veals, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave Veals a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Brunni, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI.

Everett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon won against Sehome on Monday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers stepped up to hand Lynden a 6-0 shutout.

Everett's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Mount Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
