Recap: Charlotte Trojans vs. Sabinal Yellowjackets

The Sabinal Yellowjackets typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Charlotte Trojans proved too difficult a challenge. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 61-27 blowout they got on the road against the Yellowjackets. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-16.

Gabby Mata was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Mata is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kadence Luna, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

The win (which was Charlotte's third in a row) raised their record to 10-15. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39 points. As for Sabinal, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.

Charlotte will be playing at home against La Pryor at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Pryor's defense has only allowed 28.3 points per game this season, so Charlotte's offense will have their work cut out for Charlotte. As for Sabinal, they will head out on the road to face off against Stacey at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stacey is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
