Game recap: North Wilkes High School Football Team wins against Starmount

BOONVILLE, N.C. - North Wilkes (Hays, N.C.) saw its 10-point lead shrink to three, but hung on to defeat Starmount (Boonville, N.C.) 13-10 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a LJ Hendren touchdown pass to Justin Shepherd in the second quarter, the Vikings led 7-3 at the half.

North Wilkes expanded its lead to 10 points entering the fourth quarter. NW's lone score in the quarter came on a defensive touchdown.

North Wilkes' defense chipped in with six points of its own during the win.

Starmount's lone touchdown came on a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Coming into the game the Vikings had allowed 25.4 points per game this year. A defensively strong North Wilkes kept the Rams well below the 24.7 points it had been averaging per game.



The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Starmount took, 40-6.

The loss comes after Starmount defeated Wilkes Central 42-7 last week.

Starmount (5-3) goes up against East Wilkes in a 2A/1A Conference 6 game matchup next week, while North Wilkes (7-1) locks horns with Ashe County also in a 2A/1A Conference 6 game.
