Flag Football Recap: Cypress Comes Up Short

Cypress and Bishop Amat squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Cypress had to settle for second. They and the Lancers were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 20-19 defeat. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Centurions came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Lancers are ranked 93rd).

Cypress' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tymane Allen, who threw for 230 yards and two TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. The Centurions' leading receiver Jasmyne Roberts was Allen's top target yet again, picking up 97 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Cypress didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Katie Moore, Izabella Sanchez, Kailey Tilson, and Roberts picked up one apiece.

With the defeat, Cypress broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-7. As for Bishop Amat, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

As of now, neither Cypress nor Bishop Amat have any future games scheduled.
