Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After flying high against Licking Heights on Monday, Mt. Vernon came back down to earth. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Heath Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. If the Yellowjackets were looking for revenge after losing 7-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mt. Vernon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Higgins, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

With the loss, Mt. Vernon broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6. As for Heath, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will head out to challenge Licking Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Heath, they are taking a road trip to take on Johnstown-Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are facing the Johnnies at the right time seeing as the Johnnies are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
