Softball Recap: Blacksburg Comes Up Short

Blacksburg extended their losing streak to 12 on Friday, dropping them down to 5-18. They lost 17-5 to the Christiansburg Blue Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in April.

Sullivan Shealor was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Beila Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Christiansburg, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Christiansburg's side, Lauren Massey was a standout: she fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-2. Those five RBI gave Massey a new career-high. Hayden Reynolds was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Blacksburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Christiansburg, they will face off against Pulaski County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
