Wellston extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 5-5. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Athens Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Rockets have posted since April 16, 2025.

As for Athens, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-6. The contest marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

For Athens' part, Zachary Wakeley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Wakeley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Athens saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Sharp, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Mason Sweeney also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellston will host Piketon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Athens, they will take on Logan at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
