Baseball Game Preview: Hoxie Mustangs vs. Walnut Ridge Bobcats

Hoxie hasn't had much luck against Walnut Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hoxie Mustangs will take on the Walnut Ridge Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. Walnut Ridge took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Hoxie, who comes in off a win.

Hoxie is headed out to face Walnut Ridge after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Hoxie never let Augusta get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Logan Light was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Mack Slaughter was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. PJ Forehand was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Hoxie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Augusta only posted an OBP of .273.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Walnut Ridge was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They fell just short of Newport by a score of 4-2. The loss was the Bobcats' first of the season.

Walnut Ridge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JACE BLAKE, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Hoxie might still be hurting after the 23-0 defeat they got from Walnut Ridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Hoxie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
