Baseball Recap: Pascack Hills Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pascack Hills ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Mahwah Thunderbirds 5-4. This was payback for the Broncos, who suffered a 6-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kyle Wenckus made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Pascack Hills is undefeated when Wenckus posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

Pascack Hills' record is now 6-8. As for Mahwah, they moved to 7-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Pascack Hills will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Thunderbirds: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
