Softball Game Preview: Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs vs. North Adams Green Devils

Lynchburg-Clay has gone 9-1 against North Adams recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Green Devils at 5:00 p.m. Lynchburg-Clay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Lynchburg-Clay is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Manchester just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 4-3.

Noel Barnhill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lynchburg-Clay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Roberts, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, North Adams suffered their closest loss since April 2nd on Wednesday. They fell just short of Fayetteville-Perry by a score of 14-12. The defeat continues a trend for the Green Devils in their meetings with the Rockets: they've now lost nine in a row.

Anna Armstrong was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Evans, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lynchburg-Clay's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for North Adams, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

Lynchburg-Clay skirted past North Adams 8-7 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
