Baseball Recap: Malden Comes Up Short

Malden extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 11-5. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lynn English Bulldogs. The Tornados were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

As for Lynn English, their win bumped their record up to 7-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 17th.

For Lynn English's part, Engel Thomas spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gilbert Galva, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ewerd Beato, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Malden will challenge Saugus at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lynn English, they will welcome Peabody Veterans Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
