Homestead and Carroll are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Spartans will host the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Homestead 3.6, Carroll 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Homestead is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Mississinewa just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this game were averaging 3.63 runs allowed.
Maddy Rodgers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Grace Jordan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Carroll waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Warriors.
Izzy Rapson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaelyn Kinsey was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Carroll pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Homestead, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Homestead hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Homestead couldn't quite finish off Carroll in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
