Football Recap: A'ron Lee's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ragland over Appalachian

If Ragland was riding high fresh off their 58-21 takedown of Valley Head last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Purple Devils received a blow on Friday as they fell 34-19 to the Appalachian Eagles. The Purple Devils have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Ragland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was A'Ron Lee, who picked up 47 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 71 yards. Another player making a difference was Hunter Nolin, who rushed for 94 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.

Appalachian found their leader in sophomore Colton Caldwell, who rushed for 213 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 105 yards and one touchdown on only seven passes. Those 213 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Caldwell.

Ragland's record is now 2-5. As for Appalachian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Ragland has already played their next game, a 41-20 win against Gaylesville on the 17th. As for Appalachian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 62-7 victory against Woodville on the 17th.
