Football Game Preview: Champlain Valley Union Redhawks vs. St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers

The Champlain Valley Union Redhawks will challenge the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers on Friday. Champlain Valley Union has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with five straight losses, while St. Johnsbury Academy will come in with four straight victories.

Champlain Valley Union is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Burr & Burton, who was ranked sixth at the time (Champlain Valley Union was ranked 13th). The Redhawks took a hard 30-14 fall against the Bulldogs on Friday.

Meanwhile, St. Johnsbury Academy got themselves on the board against Lyndon Institute on Saturday, but Lyndon Institute never followed suit. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 35-0 win over the Vikings. The Hilltoppers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 35 points or more this season.

St. Johnsbury Academy found their leader in sophomore Maddox McFarland, who threw for 184 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Champlain Valley Union's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for St. Johnsbury Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Champlain Valley Union was taken down by St. Johnsbury Academy 44-7 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Redhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
