Basketball Recap: Springstead Piles Up the Points Against Crystal River

Springstead won the last time they faced Crystal River and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Springstead Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Crystal River Pirates 68-36. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springstead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Briana Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Coleman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Ziyah Munford, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points along with eight assists and three steals.

Crystal River's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keyrra Ruiz, who posted 15 points and five steals. That was a full 41.7% of Crystal River's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sara Amsbury was another key player, putting up four points and five boards.

Springstead's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points per game. As for Crystal River, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Springstead will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hernando at 7:30 p.m. As for Crystal River, they will head out on the road to challenge Weeki Wachee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Weeki Wachee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
