Basketball Game Preview: Floresville Tigers/Jaguars vs. La Vernia Bears

The Floresville Tigers/Jaguars will square off against the La Vernia Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Floresville beat Pearsall 58-54.

Meanwhile, La Vernia waltzed into their match last Monday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They blew past the Rockets 71-45. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.

La Vernia's win came from a few key players Floresville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rey Gonzales, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 19 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Whatley, who went 6-for-12 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

La Vernia pushed their record up to 24-9 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.6 points over those games. As for Floresville, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-17 record this season.

Floresville came up short against La Vernia in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 67-58. Can Floresville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
