Basketball Game Preview: Ridgemont Golden Gophers vs. Jefferson Wildcats

The Ridgemont Golden Gophers will take on the Jefferson Wildcats in a tournament on Friday. Ridgemont knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Jefferson likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, everything went Ridgemont's way against McComb as Ridgemont made off with an 83-61 victory. The Golden Gophers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Jefferson suffered their biggest defeat since December 27, 2024 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 62-24 loss at the hands of Elida. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Wildcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Ridgemont's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points over those games. As for Jefferson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-15.

Ridgemont didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Jefferson when the teams last played back in November of 2021, but they still walked away with an 85-80 victory. Will Ridgemont repeat their success, or does Jefferson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
