Baseball Recap: Churchill County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Dayton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Churchill County). They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Dayton Dust Devils on Friday. The Greenwave not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2024.

Zack Adams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other pitching news, Mason Storm looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

Back at the plate, Chase Carnahan was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Eric Cornejo, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

Churchill County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only four in the others. Dayton has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.

Churchill County will have a chance to go back-to-back against Dayton: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
