Basketball Recap: Lake Mead Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Lake Mead Christian Academy played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt an 87-41 loss at the hands of the Needles Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 103rd in Nevada, while the Mustangs are ranked 12th in California).

Despite the defeat, Lake Mead Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trystan Rudd went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caynen Abittan, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Lake Mead Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Needles was led to victory by Holden Jones and Luke Mills. Jones shot 7-for-12 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 boards, while Mills went 10 of 25 on his way to 25 points along with seven boards and seven steals. The contest was Mills' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrell Russell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Lake Mead Christian Academy dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Needles, the win keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Lake Mead Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-46 defeat against Laughlin on the 11th. As for Needles, they will host Awaken Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
