Softball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Westville

Westville won the last time they faced Whiting and things went their way on Friday too. The Blackhawks never let the Oilers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Blackhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Kierstin Vargas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miranda Sparks, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kiersten Vaughan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Westville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whiting struck out 15 times.

The victory made it two in a row for Westville and bumps their season record up to 15-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Whiting, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Westville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-0 victory against Michigan City on the 24th. Whiting does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
