Baseball Recap: Columbian Takes a Loss

Columbian had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Perkins Pirates by a score of 5-3. The Tornadoes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Johnny Bremyer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Perkins, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Perkins' side, Braxden Martin made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Martin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Davie, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Columbian has already played their next contest, an 8-5 loss against Bellevue on the 30th. As for Perkins, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Sandusky on the 30th.
