Football Game Preview: Greenwich Cardinals vs. Darien Blue Wave

The Greenwich Cardinals will face off against the Darien Blue Wave at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Greenwich 10.9, Darien 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned.

Greenwich is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Wilton, who was ranked eighth at the time (Greenwich was ranked fourth). The Cardinals took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors on Friday. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Greenwich saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Phil Tarantino rushed for 92 yards on only 12 carries.

Meanwhile, Darien's offense rose to the challenge against a Tigers defense that boasted an average of only 14.38 points allowed on Friday. The Blue Wave blew past Ridgefield 35-14. Considering the Blue Wave have won five matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Darien and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.5 points over those games. As for Greenwich, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Greenwich strolled past Darien in their previous matchup back in October of 2023 by a score of 30-14. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Blue Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
