Basketball Game Preview: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Virgin Valley Bulldogs

The Moapa Valley Pirates just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Moapa Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Moapa Valley came up short against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus and fell 87-74. The Pirates have struggled against the Blue Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Moapa Valley had strong showings from Bryson Walker, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Brigham Whitmore, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards. The matchup was Walker's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Jaxson Bunker was another key player, going 7 of 17 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Moapa Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Virgin Valley against Eldorado on Wednesday as the squad secured a 63-16 victory.

Virgin Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Moapa Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Things could have been worse for Moapa Valley, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-54 loss to Virgin Valley when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Moapa Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
