Basketball Recap: KIPP Dubois Collegiate Academy Starts off Right with Win over Mariana Bracetti Academy

KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past Mariana Bracetti Academy with a 40-35 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy was led to victory by Joshua Patterson and Rahmeir Nugin- Johnson. Patterson posted 14 points, while Nugin- Johnson earned seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Amir Gay, who scored five points.

Despite the loss, Mariana Bracetti Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Izeem Whitaker dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten boards. Whitaker is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy will welcome Tacony Academy Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mariana Bracetti Academy, they will host Philadelphia Military Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
