Basketball Recap: Mercy Prep Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against UME Preparatory Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mercy Prep Academy). They snuck past the UME Preparatory Academy EAGLES with a 73-67 win on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Royals also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2024.

Mercy Prep Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Verlander, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Verlander is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Dylan Baker was another key player, putting up 22 points and three steals.

UME Preparatory Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Levi Dawkins, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 16 points. He also put up a block, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Micah Hyman, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Mercy Prep Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for UME Preparatory Academy, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Looking ahead, Mercy Prep Academy will take on Regents Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. As for UME Preparatory Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Hills Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
