Basketball Recap: Highland Prep West Comes Up Short

Highland Prep West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans and fell 43-11. While losing is never fun, the HORNETS can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Spartans are ranked 103rd).

Makayla Sison was Highland Prep West's leading scorer, having posted five points. Camille Aska held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Highland Prep West's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Highland Prep West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 39-35 loss against Arete Prep on the 19th. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sequoia Pathway Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
