Softball Recap: Southern Wells Raiders vs. Liberty Christian Lions
Southern Wells scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past the Liberty Christian Lions 20-2. The win was some much needed relief for Southern Wells as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Maddy Sutton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Sutton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive pitching appearances. Sutton was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Southern Wells got a massive performance out of Remi Holmes, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Kim McCune was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
On Liberty Christian's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicki Warren, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Southern Wells' victory bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Liberty Christian, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Wells is on the road again on Monday to play Lakewood Park Christian at 5:00 p.m. As for Liberty Christian, they will square off against Park Tudor at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
